First things first: let’s get real. Thoughts are sneaky little things, aren’t they? One moment, you’re minding your business, and the next, you’re deep in a pit of “What if” and “I’m not enough.” But the Bible gives us some powerful tools to fight back. I try to remind myself to look to these scriptures or immediately pray for God to remove these thoughts from my mind.
Take Every Thought Captive
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” — 2 Corinthians 10:5
“Take captive” isn’t a gentle suggestion; it’s an action-packed command. Think of it like this: when a negative or fearful thought pops into your mind, don’t roll out the welcome mat. Instead, grab it by the scruff, hold it up to the light of God’s truth, and say, “Do you align with what God says about me?” If the answer is no, kick it out. 👋
Renew Your Mind
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” — Romans 12:2

Let it water your soul and pull out the lies that don’t belong there.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” — Philippians 4:8
This scripture is like a filter for your thoughts. If it’s not true, noble, or lovely, it’s not worth your mental energy. Period. It’s okay to acknowledge hard or painful realities, but dwelling on them endlessly? That’s where the enemy sneaks in. Instead, focus on what uplifts and aligns with God’s goodness.
Practical Tips for Controlling Your Thoughts
Pause and Pray: When your mind starts spiraling, pause. Take a deep breath, and pray. Ask God to help you replace lies with truth.
